Questions and answers
Everything people ask before they ship.
If your question is not here, email us. Real questions from donors are how this page grows.
Donating
What devices can I donate?
Laptops, Chromebooks, tablets and their chargers are what our partners need most. If you are unsure about a particular device, ask us before shipping; devices that do not power on are often still useful for parts.
See the full listDoes it cost me anything?
No. We send you a prepaid shipping label and cover everything after that: transport, testing, data wiping, preparation and the journey to Nepal.
Can I donate more than one device?
Yes. Request one label per device, or, for ten or more devices, contact us and we will send a stack of labels or arrange a pickup.
Bulk donationsCan I donate money instead of a device?
The programme is built around devices, but shipping and preparation do cost money. If you would like to help cover those costs, get in touch and we will tell you how.
Contact usWill I get a receipt?
Yes. Once your device is received and tested, an acknowledgement letter listing what you sent is available in your account on the platform. Whether a donation is tax-deductible depends on your circumstances, so please check with a tax adviser.
Shipping
How do I get the prepaid label?
Request it on our platform. You describe the device and give us a shipping address; we email a label you can print. If you cannot print, tell us and we will mail one.
Which carrier do I use, and where do I drop it off?
The carrier is printed on your label. Drop the parcel at any of that carrier's locations or drop boxes that accept parcels of its size.
How should I pack the device?
Wrap it in something soft, use a box slightly larger than the device, fill the gaps, include the charger and tape the label flat on top.
Packing checklistHow will I know it arrived?
Every parcel is scanned in at our warehouse against your record. You get an email, and the status in your account changes to Received. From there you can follow testing, preparation, shipping and placement.
How long until my device reaches a child?
Devices ship to Nepal in batches, so the wait depends on when the next batch fills and clears customs. It is usually a matter of months rather than weeks. You can follow every step in your account rather than wondering.
Data and privacy
What happens to the data on my device?
Every storage drive is fully erased before anything else is done, and a fresh operating system is installed. Drives that cannot be erased are removed and physically destroyed. Nobody browses your files at any point.
Should I wipe it myself first?
You are welcome to, but it is not required. What is required is signing out of your accounts and turning off Find My or Activation Lock, because a locked device cannot be reused by anyone.
What personal information do you keep about me?
Your name, email and the address the label was issued for, so we can send updates and, if needed, the acknowledgement letter. We do not sell or share donor information.
Privacy policyNepal and partners
Will my device go to schools hit by the August 2026 floods?
Upcoming batches prioritise schools in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, the districts worst hit when a glacier collapse sent floods down the Trishuli on 26 August 2026. Devices reach those schools through our partners and local education authorities once classrooms or temporary learning centres are ready for them, and you can see on the platform which school received yours.
About the flood responseWho actually receives the devices?
Children and schools in Nepal, through local non-profit partners who know their communities. Partners are listed on the platform, along with the batches they have received.
About our partnersHow do you choose partners?
Partners are organisations registered in Nepal with a track record of working with children or schools. They agree to record every device they receive and place on the platform, and to keep devices in educational use.
Are donated devices ever sold?
No. Devices are given, never sold, and partners agree to that in writing. Every placement is recorded on the platform, so a device that went missing would be visible as missing.
Can I choose where my device goes?
Not down to a specific school; devices are placed where partners see the greatest need. You can, however, see exactly which partner received your device and when it was placed.
Who handles customs and import paperwork?
We do, together with the receiving partner. Batches are declared as donations with a full manifest. Donors do not need to do anything.
Getting involved
Can my company, school or community group run a drive?
Yes, and it is one of the most effective ways to help. We supply labels or arrange a pickup, and can give you posters and a short guide for participants.
Bulk and corporate donationsCan I volunteer at the warehouse?
Testing, wiping and packing devices is hands-on work and extra hands are welcome. Contact us and tell us where you are based.
Contact usI run a non-profit in Nepal. How do we become a partner?
Read what partnership involves, then apply through the platform. We will follow up to talk about your community's needs and how distribution would work.
