What we accept

Laptops, Chromebooks, tablets and chargers

Our partners in Nepal need devices that a student can carry, open and learn on. When in doubt, ask; a quick email saves a wasted shipment.

Yes, please

  • Laptops

Windows, Mac or Linux. Roughly ten years old or newer, and able to power on.

  • Chromebooks

Any model that still receives updates, or that can be re-imaged.

  • Tablets and iPads

With a working screen. Please remove any Activation Lock first.

  • Chargers and power adapters

Especially the charger that belongs to the device you are sending.

  • Working accessories

Mice, keyboards, webcams and wired headphones, in the same box as a device.

Ask us first

  • Devices that do not power on

Often still useful for parts. Tell us the model and we will say yes or no.

  • Cracked or damaged screens

Some models are worth repairing, others are not.

  • Smartphones

Accepted from time to time, depending on what our partners currently need.

  • Ten or more devices

We can send a stack of labels or arrange a pickup. See bulk donations below.

Not right now

  • Desktop towers and monitors

Too heavy and fragile to ship this way.

  • Printers, scanners and TVs

  • Loose, damaged or swollen batteries

    These cannot be posted safely.

Before you ship

Six things to do before the box is taped

Ten minutes now saves a device from arriving locked or without a charger.

  1. 1

Back up anything you want to keep

Once the device reaches us it is erased completely. Copy photos and documents somewhere safe first.

  2. 2

    Sign out of your accounts

Sign out of iCloud, Google and Microsoft accounts. On Macs, iPads and iPhones, turn off Find My so that Activation Lock is removed. A locked device cannot be reused.

  3. 3

Take out SIM and memory cards

Check the card slots. We cannot return anything left inside.

  4. 4

You do not have to wipe it yourself

We erase every drive before doing anything else. If you would rather wipe it first, that is welcome too.

  5. 5

    Include the charger

A laptop without its charger is much harder to place. Coil the cable and put it in the same box.

  6. 6

    Pack it snugly

Wrap the device in bubble wrap, a towel or clothing. Use a box a little bigger than the device and fill any gaps. Tape the label flat on top.

Your data

Your data is gone before anything else happens

Erasing the drive is the first thing that happens to a device after it is scanned in, before it is tested or even opened for repair.

  • Every storage drive is fully erased, then a fresh operating system is installed.
  • Drives that cannot be erased are removed and physically destroyed.
  • Nobody opens or browses your files at any stage.
  • You are welcome to wipe the device yourself first, but it is not required.
  • What you must do: sign out of your accounts and turn off Find My or Activation Lock, or the device cannot be reused.

Bulk and corporate donations

Ten devices or a thousand

Companies refreshing hardware, schools retiring a fleet and community groups running a drive are the fastest way to fill a batch. We make it easy.

Companies

Retired laptops from a hardware refresh are often ideal: consistent models, recent enough, usually with chargers. We provide a full list of received devices for your asset records, and an acknowledgement letter.

Schools and universities

End-of-life Chromebooks and laptops from a US classroom fit a Nepali classroom well. We can coordinate with your IT team on de-enrolment before shipping.

Community drives

Temples, churches, clubs and neighbourhood groups can collect devices over a few weeks. We send labels or arrange a pickup, plus posters and a one-page guide.

Tell us roughly how many and where

For ten or more devices we send a stack of labels or arrange a pickup.

One device is enough to start.

Request a label, pack it with the charger, and you will hear from us the day it arrives.
